About
In my personal work, I strive to go beyond the technical interest of recording light and structure in an aesthetically pleasing way. The built environment is a beautiful physical expression of a culture, their symbols, their social relations, their idea of separation and containment, but most particularly, a tool for stewardship. I make choices with each of my works in order to bring attention to those meanings, and to showcase media. I most enjoy using illustration and print to mimic our commercial and advertised world through multiple editions, repetition, simplified forms, and size. I choose colors based off of the environment, and play with their intensity in order to highlight components and emphasize an artistic hand within the work. Perspective, size, edition number, layout, and display involves the viewer and establishes their physical place in relation to the depicted environment.
Professionally, in commission work and as a teacher, I use technical skill, along with various media to achieve various objectives, depending on the client or class. My exemplars range from technical to conceptual, and include drawing, painting, illustration, photography, animation/video, and mixed media.
